Israel and it's troubled critics

Today's Register newspaper contains an article written by a former U.S. Airforce F-14 pilot. It is a rare situation that causes me to question an air force officer, but he has confused me with the comment that it is possible that Israel will be charged with war crimes if they do not stop their attacks on Palestinian civilians. Is he right or wrong? War Crimes? What should the be expected to do? Nothing is said about the thousands of rockets fired into Israeli cities. Apparently that's okay because they are relatively crude weapons, not as effective as the Israeli weapons. The pilot just has to be kidding. Or just not thinking clearly.
The object of war is not to spare civilians. It is to force the enemy to stop an aggression.

It is (and has been) the Palestinian political and military leaders that have caused their own civilian population to be (accidentally) attacked. The Palestinians, militant and civilian, routinely intermingle with their military personnel and weapon systems. They proudly (and unbelievably) place their children directly in front of Israeli targets. You (Mr. Pilot) are saying that a large grid in the center of a Palestinian city should not be attacked if surrounded by Palestinian innocents?  In fact, you threaten to condemn the Israeli's as "war criminals" should they do so. You sir, are apparently unable to fairly judge Israel's attempts at self preservation.
