My men's book club suggested the book "My Beloved Life" by Sonya Sotomayor. I didn't think I'd like it. I knew little more than she was supposed to be a brilliant lawyer, somewhat dumpy in appearance, and had been appointed to the Supreme Court by our incompetent President Obama. She looked to be from an Italian or Jewish background, not especially good looking, and for lack of a better description, typlified a "smart and pushy broad". Larry found this book to be worthy of the club selection. His recommendation cancelled my preconceived notions and I began reading reading one of the most delightful surprises of the year. "My Beloved Live" is a wonderful book. It pulls no punches regarding her early life as well as her destination on the Supreme Court. President Obama rarely does anything right. This time he did. Sonya Sotomayer is the Horatio Alger of the legal biz! Her life story is carefully and smoothly written from early days to the present. The translation from poor and somewhat disadvantaged to the stellar pinnacle of professional legal success is the story of the fascinating single-mindedness of a poor immigrant Hispanic girl. With all of it's difficulties it is still a most uplifting history of accomplishment. On my scale of ten, "My Beloved Life" rates a 9.
